How we moved from position #13 to #2 without building any backlinks? @BoniSatani's guide in the free Summer of SEO course is incredible! Share the love on Twitter

There’s a hack that very few people are talking about right now!

(”Search Intent Analysis”)

I used this to get #2 spot for the keyword – “stretches for cyclists” without building any backlinks!

I also increased the organic traffic from almost zero to 540 per month.

And I did all of these without building a backlink!

In today’s newsletter, I’m going to show you exactly how I did it, step-by-step.

Step 1: Identify the Search Intent

Step 2: Match the Search Intent

Step 3: Re-index the Page & Wait 🙂

Step 1: Identify the Search Intent

Search intent, also known as user intent or query intent, refers to the underlying motivation or purpose behind a user’s search query when using a search engine.

It focuses on understanding what the user wants to achieve or the information they are seeking with their search.

Here’s a simple way to identify the search intent:

Enter the Primary Keyword in Google & analyze the SERPs.

Specifically analyze the titles to quickly understand the intent.

For example…

If you search for “how to remove pimples”,

You will realize that the top ranking articles are around “How to get rid of pimples fast” or “how to get rid of pimples overnight” instead of “How to remove pimples

So If you are planning to target this keyword, you should focus on creating an article or a video – around “getting rid of pimples fast”

Here’s another example…

If you search for “business accounting software”,

You will realize that the top ranking articles are around “Best Accounting Software for Small Business” (Listicle Post) instead of a feature page targeting the keyword – “business accounting software”.

So if you want to target this keyword, you should create a content which will list down all the “best small business accounting software”

Now let’s go back to the case study to connect this:

When the client came to us, they wanted rank for the keyword “stretches for cyclist”.

I performed the search intent analysis and I figured out that the intent of the keyword was “XX Stretches for Cyclist”.

And to rank for this keyword, the content should be around “XX Stretches for Cyclist”.

This leads us to…

Step 2: Match the Search Intent

After identifying the search intent, I reviewed their content.

And their content was around “Why Cyclists Need to Stretch!” instead of “XX Best Stretches for Cyclists”.

There was no way we could rank the page (not even with the best of backlinks), as the content in the article did not match the search intent.

So we requested the client to match the intent by updating the content and writing around “XX Best Stretches for Cyclist”.

Here’s how the new content looked:

With this new content, the search intent was satisfied.

And now it’s time to…

Step 3: Re-index the Page & Wait 🙂

Once the search intent was satisfied keyword rankings started to improve!

From #13 spot – it moved to #2 spot!

Not a single backlink was built to improve the rankings. No other changes were done except satisfying the search intent.

The client came to us for a link building service, but we ended up ranking their page without building one.

Next Steps for you:

  • Identify the articles that are ranking between 6 to 20 Positions and perform search intent analysis.
  • Update the articles to satisfy the search intent and get more traffic.

FAQ:

What if rankings do not improve after satisfying the search intent?

If the rankings do not improve, I’d recommend performing a detailed backlink gap analysis to understand if you need backlinks.

What if the search intent is mixed?

If the search intent is mixed i.e. different types of articles are ranking, in that case, check if your article satisfies any one of the search intents, if it does you shouldn’t take any action.

How soon can you see the improvements?

In this case study, we observed the improvement in just 15 days.

In general, you can expect the changes within 1 to 4 weeks. So you don’t have to wait for long!
